: and onlt get a ten or so hp gain... and this is not considered foolish? Now we're looking at the high end cost of an exhaust.. not the lowest known cost. Ghetto SPs, etc. can be had for way less then $1k. Only Stillen offers the headers at their price currently. If I wanted to go drop $10k for a set of NA headers or an exhaust for that matter, I'm sure I could find someone to make them for me.. boy, would I be a dumbass right? Now, let's look at low end exhaust costs vs Stillen's headers. For the $750 I was looking at to do headers, I can spend the same amount & get potentially more performance, and some asthetic value from a nice cat-back exhaust setup... like Greddy or something (hell, I don't know exactly what exhaust go for except what I paid for mine). Anyway.. see my point? : I think my main point is that folks automaticaly jump up and say no without really thinking about it. True.. kinda like our pre-programmed NA->TT response. You have to admit, it's grounded on some general truth. But the NA's that I've seen go the distance & not bug spray were honestly pretty dissappointing power wise, compared to say.. the gains a Camaro with the same type of mods does. : B&B quad ovals on an NA... $1000+ with a 12hp or so gain. : Stillen headers around $900 installed with a 10hp or so gain. That's like the most expensive NA exhaust out there. Get Ghetto SP or whatever for $750 for at least a 10 Hp gain *&* the asthetic value... : I guess the thing that turned folks off most of all was the far out claims made by stillen... but I'd say they are just as benificial as an exhaust... no? Possibly, like I said it might be considered bad money after good unless NOS is involved. Look at PEwithaZ & Greg's NA charts.. they are pretty far up the food chain mod wise... with little gain over the '95 Stage III NA. That's what I'm getting at. Michael Doan's Stage III NA:
I thought I had a sheet from Greg's ZWEET before it went kaput. Guess not. Anyway, his was pretty much identical to PEwithaZ's except for cams, one is reground & one is billets. Greg said his numbers were the same, the curve was slightly different. Stage VI+ NA (headers, cams, headwork, etc):
Greg Osen's auto NA stage IV (headers) on 100 shot (we guess) of NOS (same day as the chart above):
Stock TT owners had better duck when he's spraying. ;-) See the difference all that work did for the tricked out NAs compared to that lowly stage III NA? I'd be dissappointed in the gains if I had spent the money to do all the work they did to try & get ahead. I think Greg's secretly happy ZWEET got totalled so he could go dark on us w/ ZWEETT. Seriously, that's my show & tell on why I tell NA owners to not bother w/ headers and higher unless they want to make w/ the laughing gas. If someone wants to go nuts like Greg did & have everything done... He'll tell you that's it's probably not the smartest thing to do moneywise. but, we own cars we love & we do whatever we can to make them better.. whether that's more parts for more hp or a kit or wheels or whatever. Just maximize the pleasure of driving. ;-)
